The Cedar and Parowan Lions clubs are pleased to partner with the North Elementary PTA to sponsor a fun, positive activity where students, PTA, and sponsors win.

All elementary students at North have received a "Home Reading Chart". Please encourage your students to read and complete their charts. Each student records their reading on the chart and will bring it to the Kite Festival to redeem a Free Kite! All sponsorship dollars will be divided to the school based upon the reading charts redeemed at the Kite Festival. Additional sponsorships are available for anyone who would like to be a part of this fun positive event.

The Kite Festival will be held at the Cedar Middle School fields next to Discovery Park on April 24th 2010. The Kite Festival will run from 10am to 4pm with kite flying, vendors and many other fun family centered activities.

Afterschool Program

The 4-H Afterschool Program, also known as Youth and Families with Promise began at North Elementary in the fall of 2009. If offers three excellent opportunities for our children in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades, in class mentoring, after school help with homework and fun 4-H projects. The goal is to help children succeed in academics and in life.

The mentors are coordinated with SUU and other volunteer organizations. Each mentor is screened and trained before mentoring begins.

To participate in our program, we ask parents and or teachers to refer their students to the program. You may do so by emailing Becky Hyde at becky.hyde@usu.edu. There is no cost to the school or the student. We have registration packets available and ask that parents complete the packet to determine the needs of each student upon admission and match them most beneficially with their mentor.

Currently the program only has four students enrolled at North Elementary and we have room for Twenty Five. If you have a child or know of a child that would benefit from this program please contact Becky by e-mail or at the 4-H Extension Office at 586-8132.
